Fernand Braudel Postdoctoral Fellowship Duration and Location

Fernand Braudel Postdoctoral Fellowship has a maximum duration of 10 months. Applicants must indicate their intended length of stay in their application, though the host department may propose a different or shorter period based on available funding. Fellowships are typically not awarded for the months of July and August.

Fellows are expected to reside in Florence for the duration of their fellowship to actively engage in the academic activities of their respective department.

Fernand Braudel Postdoctoral Fellowship Stipend

Fernand Braudel Postdoctoral Fellowship provides a monthly stipend of €3,000. However, candidates whose primary residence is within 90 kilometers of Florence will receive a reduced grant. The fellowship does not cover travel expenses or any costs related to relocation or installation.

Fernand Braudel Postdoctoral Fellowship Eligibility

Applicants for the Fernand Braudel Postdoctoral Fellowship must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  1. The fellowships are open to academics with a recognized international reputation. Former EUI professors or fellows may apply, provided at least three years have passed since their last position at the EUI.
  2. Applicants of all nationalities are eligible to apply.
  3. Fellows must have strong proficiency in English and any other language required for their proposed research.

Deadlines

The application deadlines for Fernand Braudel Postdoctoral Fellowship are 30 March and 30 September each year.

  1. The Department of Economics considers applications submitted by both the 30 March and 30 September deadlines.
  2. The Department of Law reviews only applications submitted by the 30 March deadline for fellowships in the following academic year (September to June).
  3. The Department of History and Civilization considers only applications submitted by the 30 September deadline for fellowships in the next academic year (September to June).
  4. The Department of Political and Social Sciences also accepts only applications submitted by the 30 September deadline for fellowships during the following academic year (September to June).

Required Application Documents

  1. Submit your CV in PDF format (maximum five pages), highlighting your education, professional experience, awards, and key achievements, along with a selected list of publications, including books, book chapters, and articles in major academic journals.
  2. Prepare a research proposal (2–4 pages) in PDF format.
  3. Use standard international fonts and avoid password-protected files, special characters, or macros.
  4. Reference Letters: While not required at this stage, applicants are encouraged to provide the names and contact details of two referees who may be contacted by the EUI later in the selection process.
