The Fernand Braudel Postdoctoral Fellowships provide experienced scholars with an established international reputation the opportunity to pursue research at the European University Institute (EUI). Hosted by one of the EUI’s four departments, the fellowships last up to ten months. About The Fernand Braudel Postdoctoral Fellowships
The Fernand Braudel Postdoctoral Fellowships at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy, present an exceptional opportunity for postdoctoral researchers in the social sciences and humanities to further their academic work. Fellowship Length and Host Institution
The fellowship has a maximum duration of 10 months. Applicants are required to indicate their intended length of stay in their application; however, based on available funding, the host department may propose a shorter or alternative duration to selected candidates. Typically, fellowships are not awarded during the months of July and August.
To fully engage in the academic activities of their department, fellows are expected to reside in Florence for the duration of their fellowship.
Financial Support
The Fernand Braudel Postdoctoral Fellowships provides a monthly allowance of €3,000. For successful candidates whose primary residence is within 90 kilometers of Florence, the stipend is offered at a reduced rate. Please note that the fellowship does not cover travel expenses or any costs related to relocation or installation.
Who Can Apply for the Fernand Braudel Postdoctoral Fellowships
To be considered for the Fernand Braudel Postdoctoral Fellowships, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Established Academic Reputation: Candidates must be scholars with a strong international academic standing.
- Previous EUI Affiliation: Former EUI professors or fellows are eligible, provided at least three years have passed since the end of their last appointment at the EUI.
- Open to All Nationalities: The fellowships are open to researchers of all nationalities.
- Language Proficiency: Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English and any other language relevant to their proposed research project.
Important Deadline Details
The Fernand Braudel Postdoctoral Fellowships have two annual application deadlines: 30 March and 30 September.
- Department of Economics: Reviews applications submitted for both the 30 March and 30 September deadlines.
- Department of Law: Considers only applications submitted by 30 March for fellowships starting in the following academic year (September to June).
- Department of History and Civilization: Only reviews applications submitted by 30 September for fellowships beginning the next academic year (September to June).
- Department of Political and Social Sciences: Also considers only 30 September submissions for fellowships starting the following academic year (September to June).
