  • Annual Stipend: Full-time scholarship recipients receive a yearly stipend of $33,480 (2024 rate). The stipend may remain the same as the previous year due to the annual index.
  • Relocation Allowance: Awardees relocating—either from overseas or within Australia—can receive up to $515 per eligible adult and $255 per eligible child, with a maximum of $1,485, upon presenting receipts that verify the travel costs.
  • Leave Entitlements: Recipients are eligible for sick leave, partner leave, recreational leave, and other approved types of leave.

Who Can Apply

  1. To qualify for the Griffith University Postgraduate Research Scholarship, applicants must:
  • Be commencing or already enrolled in a Griffith University Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program eligible for GUPRS support.
  • Not receive additional funding for living expenses exceeding 75% of the GUPRS stipend. Funding unrelated to the HDR program or intended for purposes other than regular living costs does not affect eligibility.

2. To be eligible, candidates must:

  • Academic Qualification: Hold a Bachelor’s Degree (AQF 8) with First Class Honours (Class I), or be considered by Griffith University to have an equivalent level of achievement, as specified on the HDR program entrance webpage.
  • Degree Level: Not have completed a degree that exceeds or is equivalent to the HDR program they are applying for.
  • Previous HDR Candidacy: Have completed no more than 12 months (full-time equivalent) of HDR candidature at Griffith University or any other Australian or international university if seeking recognition for prior HDR studies.
  • Previous Scholarships: Not have held the same or a similar scholarship before, unless it was terminated within the first six months, awarded for a lower-level degree, or if transferring the scholarship (see Section 3.6 of the HDR Scholarship Procedure).
  • Commonwealth Awards: Not have received a Commonwealth Government Australia Award scholarship in the two years prior to the commencement of the award, unless approved by the relevant Commonwealth Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade division.
