HAN University Overview
HAN University of Applied Sciences, commonly known as HAN, is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in the Netherlands. With over 36,000 students, it offers a wide range of bachelor’s and master’s programs. Located in the Dutch province of Gelderland, HAN has campuses in Arnhem and Nijmegen, along with a research center in Doetinchem.
HAN Scholarships for Global Students
HAN University offers two main scholarships for international students: the HAN Holland Scholarship and the HAN Honors Scholarship.
Bachelor’s Scholarships at HAN

Holland Scholarships at HAN
The merit-based HAN Holland Scholarships offer financial support to selected students enrolled in bachelor’s or master’s degree programs.
Bachelor’s Level HAN Holland Scholarship
This scholarship provides €2,500 in the first semester and another €2,500 in the second semester. After that, you can receive €2,500 each year for the next three years of your studies, provided you earn at least 45 credits annually.
Master’s Level HAN Holland Scholarship
The €5,000 scholarship is awarded for a one-year master’s program, with €2,500 granted in the first semester and another €2,500 in the second semester.
HAN Honors Scholarship
You don’t need to apply separately for the Honors Scholarship. It is awarded to students selected by the academic board who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance in their first year. Students who meet the minimum requirements but did not receive the HAN Holland Scholarship may be considered for the Honors Scholarship.
Bachelor’s Honors Scholarship
The scholarship begins with a €2,500 payment in the second year. You can continue to receive €2,500 each year for the remainder of your studies, provided you earn at least 45 credits annually.
Master’s Level Honors Scholarship
The Honors Scholarship is a one-time grant of €2,500 awarded during the second semester.
Who Can Apply
- Nationality: Applicants must be non-EU/EEA nationals. The HAN Holland Scholarship is intended for students from outside the European Union and European Economic Area.
- Academic Achievement: This merit-based scholarship is awarded to students who have demonstrated strong academic performance, typically reflected in a high grade point average or equivalent academic success.
- Program Admission: You must have received an offer of admission to a bachelor’s or master’s program at HAN University of Applied Sciences.
- English Language Proficiency: You need to meet one of the following minimum language requirements: TOEFL iBT score of 90, IELTS score of 6.5, or a Cambridge Certificate (CAE or CPE).
- No Prior Enrollment: You must not have previously been registered in a degree program at any Dutch university or university of applied sciences.
Application Procedure
- Apply to one of HAN’s degree programs and make sure your admission is confirmed before the relevant deadline listed below. Since diplomas and certificates require verification, it’s important to apply early.
- Once you’ve been accepted and meet all the scholarship requirements, you will receive an email invitation to apply for the scholarship.
- Follow the link in the email invitation to complete and submit your scholarship application. You’ll need to include the following:
- A letter of motivation explaining why you believe you’ll succeed as a student at HAN, highlighting your strengths, ambitions, and reasons for choosing your program.
- A short video of yourself, no longer than three minutes, in which you describe what your former teachers or friends might say about you, talk about your personal strengths, explain why you chose your HAN program, imagine your role in a team and why it suits you, and share your career aspirations and where you see yourself professionally in ten years.
- A copy of your curriculum vitae (CV) outlining your academic background, achievements, and relevant experience.
- Submit a written confirmation of your scholarship acceptance by the deadline stated in your award notification letter.
