Located in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) is a public research institution and the country’s oldest university, founded in 1976 by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the nation’s first president. The College of Graduate Studies (CGS) is an administrative unit within UAEU’s Division of Academic Affairs. To serve the needs of the graduate community, the dean and CGS staff work closely with all academic and administrative divisions across the university.

Who Can Apply

To apply for the College of Graduate Studies PhD Scholarships, candidates must:

Hold a master’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.5 out of 4.0.
Have no employment or other sources of income.
Propose a dissertation in one of the university’s priority areas: Health, Water, Technology, Space, Renewable Energy, Transportation, or Health.
Apply for and meet all requirements for admission to the PhD program.

Minimum Admission Requirements for the PhD Program

Academic Qualification:
- A master’s degree in the relevant field or a closely related discipline from a university accredited by the UAE Ministry of Education, or an equivalent institution, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- A bachelor’s degree in the relevant field or a closely related discipline from a recognized university, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent.
English Language Proficiency:
- For programs where English is the primary language of instruction or the dissertation is required in English, candidates must achieve a minimum IELTS Academic score of 6.5 (or equivalent). Test results must not be older than two years at the time of application, with the following exceptions:
  - Applicants with a master’s degree from an English-medium institution who can provide proof of a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 (or equivalent) at the time of admission to their master’s program.
  - Native English speakers who completed their master’s degree in an English-medium institution in a country where English is the official language.
- For programs taught primarily in Arabic, a minimum IELTS score of 5.0 (or equivalent) is required.
Additional Requirements:
- Individual colleges or departments may set further specific admission criteria for their PhD programs.

A fully completed application form.
Identity documents:
- For international students: a copy of the passport.
- For Emirati students: a copy of the passport and Khulasat Al-Qaid.
One official transcript and diploma from each previously attended university, certified copies.
